suggested computer accessories:

  • personal productivity software - All schools recommend a personal productivity suite like Microsoft Office, available at a significant discount through the ITS Software Store. Other personal productivity software is available at an standard educational discount through the campus bookstore.
  • printer - Inkjet or other small footprint printer.
  • speakers and headphones - optional.
  • operating manuals, installation disks - to help diagnose problems.
  • copy of hardware warranty/proof of purchase - keep originals at home.
  • surge suppressor/power strip - for multiple devices
  • TV and other video eqipment remote controls

 

things to AVOID:

  • versions of Windows prior to XP or of MacOS X prior to 10.3
  • Computers built by individuals
  • 2.4 GHz cordless phones - Interfere with wireless network access.
  • wireless Access Points (APs) - Personal wireless access points, hubs, routers are prohibited.

Ethernet cables will be provided to all incoming first year students. These cables are yours to keep and should be takenwith you to be used throughout your career at Vanderbilt.

Note: If you are assigned to a double in Branscomb Quadrangle, you may wish to bring a 25' phone cable to reach from the phone jack (at the door) to the desk in the rear of the room.
